A New Iberia, Louisiana man was charged with his second and third driving while intoxicated offenses after he allegedly left the scene of two car crashes within 30 minutes of each other.
Both accidents happened Friday night, according to Capt. Wendell Raborn of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Raborn said the suspect had a had a blood-alcohol level close to 0.24 percent, or about three times the level considered proof of intoxication.
The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Sergio Vargas.
Vargas, who is from Mexico, was unable to prove he is a legal resident. He was charged with two counts of operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States, two counts of hit-and-run driving and second- and third-offense DWI.
