Many consumers from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have relocated to Texas in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
While it is uncertain when they will be able to return to their homes, those leaving flooded areas may have questions about their insurance but do not know where to turn for help. To assist those evacuees in Texas, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has a toll-free Consumer Help Line (800-252-3439) to assist consumers with questions regarding their insurance.
To obtain electronic access to the list of insurance carriers that have set up disaster hot lines to help their policyholders, consumers may visit the TDI Storm Link Web page at: http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/commish/storms/index.html.
Consumers are encouraged to contact their insurance carrier for assistance with questions about claims or their policies.
