Stating that the agent liability bill, Texas House Bill 2155, was heard recently in the House Insurance Committee, where trial attorneys attacked agents, trying to discredit the proposal, the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas encouraged agents to let legislators know they support the legislation.
IIAT said the Senate companion bill, Senate Bill 236, is tentatively scheduled for a hearing before the Senate State Affairs Committee on April 18. The association is asking agents to come to Austin to help get the bill passed.
“If you have had an E&O claim where the insured was partially or wholly at fault, we want you to tell your story to legislators,” the IIAT’s announcement said. “Please contact Bo Gilbert (bgilb@iiat.org) if you can come to Austin at IIAT’s expense on April 18 (tentative) and help with testimony. We need the voice of independent agents in Austin now.”
