Texas Gov. Rick Perry recently proposed the creation of a state Inspector General position that would monitor large state agencies—including the Texas Department of Insurance and the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission—for waste, fraud and abuse. Mike Hachtman, chairman of the TWCC, said he thinks it’s a good idea.
“TWCC is committed to providing the most efficient and effective system for Texas,” Hachtman said. “TWCC employees never cease in their tireless efforts to identify fraud, abuse and waste and will welcome any additional resources to help in this endeavor. “
The creation of the position of Inspector General at the Commission, and at other large state agencies, will be considered by the Texas Legislature currently in session in Austin.
