Claims People: Farmers, RLI and McGlinchey Stafford

Farmers Hires Chief Claims Officer

Farmers Insurance hired Kevin Yoo as chief claims officer, effective July 12.

Yoo succeeds Rob Howard, who will retire in October, the insurance carrier said in a press release.

Yoo previously served in senior claims roles at CSAA, Chubb, Allstate and Progressive, Farmers said. He most recently was chief operating officer at Five Sigma, a startup claims technology company based in Reno, Nevada. Yoo oversaw client marketing and sales, investor relations, technology development and client deployment, Farmers said.

Yoo obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland in 1987, according to his LinkedIn page.

Howard has served as Farmers’ chief claims officer in 2018. He held several senior leadership roles after joining the company in 1987, including head of property field claims and head of claims shared services.

RLI Promotes 2 Claim Professionals

RLI promoted two executives in its claim and claim counsel teams.

RLI, a specialty insurer and surety company based in Peoria, Illinois, appointed Cory Figiel as vice president responsible for professional liability, environmental liability and executive products claims. He was previously assistant vice president.

Marcos Cancio was promoted to vice president, claims counsel. He willoversee claim-related litigation.

Figiel joined RLI in 2016 as director, claim counsel after serving nine years as a litigation and coverage attorney, the company said in a press release. She advised the professional services group, executive products group and and general liability claims teams on coverage issues.

In 2019, Figiel moved to the claim department and was promoted to assistant vice president. She recently added oversight of environmental liability claims to her responsibilities.

Cancio joined RLI in 2018 as casualty claim counsel. Before then, he worked for 15 years as a coverage attorney at various national and international law firms in Chicago, where he handled complex insurance coverage and bad faith matters for various product lines.

McGlinchey Hires 3, Expands in Calif.

The McGlinchey Stafford law firm hired three attorneys in California.

Leslie Fales and Summer Smith joined the enterprise litigation and investigations practice group as of counsel. Zeeshan Iqbal joined the financial practices group as an associate.

All three attorneys are affiliated with McGlinchey’s office in Irvine, but they will work from various locations in California.

The three new hires follow the appointment of three other California attorneys in May, McGlichey said in a press release.

Fales will work remotely for the law firm in San Francisco. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

Smith will also work remotely from San Francisco. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the Pacific McGeorge School of Law.

Iqbal received his Juris Doctorate from the Baylor Law School in 2020 and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State Polytechnic University in 2013.
