Berkshire Hathaway Names Chief Legal & Compliance Officer

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance named Ralph Tortorella III senior vice president, chief legal & compliance officer.

Tortorella was previously the global specialty general counsel at Liberty Mutual Group, Inc.

“Stability in the legal and compliance function is crucial to our success — and Ralph brings exceptional expertise to this role,” said Peter Eastwood, president of Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. “Not only has Ralph worked extensively with core insurance coverage and operational issues during his career, he has amassed substantial corporate governance, regulatory and M&A experience both domestically and internationally. His expertise will serve us well now and into the future.”

Tortorella was also general counsel of Liberty Mutual’s international and commercial insurance operations. Before that, he was senior partner at the national insurance services law firm of Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley, where he began his career as an associate and later founded the firm’s New York operation.

He is a graduate of Union College and Santa Clara University School of Law.
