80% of Progressive\’s business comes from the Drive (Independent Agent) leg. I agree
Prog thougth consumers would rush to the net to buy all their insurance they didnt.
They realize that Ind Agents are the backbone of their Company, but they want to keep the direct business available to the one that do want to buy online. Prog
will never do away with Drive as long as the bulk of their business comes from them. I agree with Marie, many consumers get a quote online, but then go to an Agent to buy. That has been and will always be the weak link with consumers buying direct online, they don\’t know what the need nor what they are buying. Most people still realize they need an expert to advise them. Company sales people are not even licensed, normally.

We have written Progressive in New york since 1988, and seen them develop from a substandard Auto market to a Multi tiered/Multi line carrier. But, the DIRECT Writer Progressive has used the reputation made by the Independant Agencies. Why didn\’t the direct division start out with a new\”BRAND\” like E-surance ( Geico lite) ? I do feel that Progressive has left the Indies to the side of the road. Some of our clients calling Drive have been REWRITTEN to Progressive Direct. It isn\’t supposed to happen, but it has. What else does the future have for Drive\’s support of the Indie Agents ? They won\’t get rid of us entirely, but I see their support waning.

What a scam. Our insurance info clearly states we have a 30 day car rental. My husband was in an accident which totalled our car and he was 100% not at fault. Then we are told that progressive only pays for 3 days if a car is totalled. That shows up nowhere on our information. Now through no fault of his our car that was almost paid off (after 5 years) is gone I am out on disability and our income couldn’t be worse and he has to turn in the rental with $400 that we don’t have!!!What is that? We can’t finance a new car since we have no trade in and I am going to be stuck in the house rather than go to my physical therapies etc. Insurance companies get away with murder and many attornies I speak with said because of all the billions of dollars of lobbying in Washington peoples rights are being totally violated. I was advised to write to my Texas legislator and I ask everyone around the country to do the same!!!!!!!!!!
