Let\’s see, Hartford, Allstate \”Encompass\”, AIG, Safeco and others, including some \”Independent Agents\” are trying to provide what the customer will buy. When was the last time that you went to the internet and bought a product and felt that warm fuzzy feeling of having a sales person agreeing with your decision. Insurance is one of those products that most people want someone to agree that they are making the correct decision. Most websites are so complex and confusing, not to mention they are not user-friendly, and price is the only attraction. Agents that provide service, competitive prices and, most of all, the \”warm fuzzy\” feeling to the client will have no real problems. There will be people that like the internet, but there will be a lot of people that want help and reassurance.

We\’ve been writing Progressive since they were an motorcycle and travel trailer writer. They emerged as an auto carrier competing with the assigned risk pool. they wrote it cheaper and provided better service.

Agents saw them as a junk auto carrier, and they still remain the carrier of last resort. At 8% commission, who in their right mind would go their first? And, still independent agents built them to the largest auto carrier through independent agents. Just think of how much more they would\’ve sold if they paid a decent commission rather than spending hundreds of millions trying to kill us.

Insurance Co. Presidents and CEO\’s come & go. Insurance Companies Merge , Sell Out , Close , Open , Go Bankrupt every week . The only constant is the Independent Inurance Agents System still going strong . Use Drive like you would any other Company . If you can profit by them , move the business later for better commission , get out of them what you can……….DO IT ! At the end of the day , week , month , year , they go 100% direct , so be it . That\’s why we are Independent………we can move it when & if we have too .

Shame on you all. As an independent agent,
I am honored to be a rep of such a company. I am a commercial agent and enjoy
being able to deal with great underwriters that work for Progressive. Progressive has always gone out of its way to make sure all of my clients are very well taken care of. After all service is the key and Progressive has always given me that.

Why else does a company grow 20% per year? Seen Progressive\’s website? It\’s only the best in the industry. I get a lot of old Farmers Insurance customers who simply can\’t stand Farmers anymore.
Farmers is getting sued AGAIN in CA for overbilling on it\’s monthly service charges. Progressive is a great company.
They\’re claims and customer service are unbelievably wonderful. In California, they beat most of the direct writers, especially if you have points on your MVR.
    My $.02.

Drive does so much better with agents than direct. i think that is why they changed their name. to try to build up direct with the advertising money they spent for it.
but drive is great and so is the service. my clients love them. i wish other companies would service their customers as well.

It may have been different years ago, but
the service and rates I get with Drive, the others can\’t touch 80% of the time. This includes preferred clients not just
non-standard. I signed up with Progressive 6 yrs ago, with a little hesitation due to all the stories I had been told. However I can only wish my \”good\” companies were that good. Automation that no other company can touch, conceirce claims service,,,. This has been one of the best decisions I have made…

After the agents built the name Progressive, they changed it to Drive in order to help production in their direct arm. Personal lines competition in the future will come from 800#s & Internet. Commercial lines from Banks. Progressive feels the future of PL is in direct marketing not agents. One of their direct adds states \”new way of buying insurance\” another add says \”we quote many companies\”, this to show the public Direct can do the same as an independent agent. I own a large balanced independent agency. We have a healthy volume with PGR. I\’m angry at them competiting with me!! We are reducing our PGR new business submissions in a slowly planned method. GET YOU HEAD OUT OF THE SAND! Take on a loyal company and cut Progressive off as soon as you can.

Progressive writes just under 7% of it\’s personal lines coverage from online users. My own experience is that customers will go online and then request a local broker so that they retain personal contact with a human being. Progressive is holding meetings this month in So California regarding it\’s new agent/broker contract. There\’s a story there too.
