Two men have been sentenced to federal prison for arson and insurance conspiracy after authorities say they conspired to burn houses they bought and insured in Kansas City, Missouri.
A news release from U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson says 28-year-old Joshua Stamps of Independence was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years and one month in prison, and 31-year-olf John S. Wayne of Kansas City was sentenced to five years. Neither is eligible for parole.
Authorities say the conspiracy lasted from July 2007 until 2013, and that the men and four others purchased, over-insured and burned five houses. The release says the total loss to insurance companies was about $435,000 and the intended loss was over $1 million.
Stamps was ordered to pay more than $400,000 in restitution, while Wayne was ordered to pay nearly $200,000.
