Sioux Falls, S.D., officials say the city will add 10 police officers and 15 firefighters next year.
The Argus Leader reports Mayor Mike Huether, Police Chief Doug Barthel and Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras announced the expanded staff on Monday. The City Council approved funding for five officers in next year’s budget, and the other five will be hired through a $625,000 federal grant.
The 15 new fire rescue workers will operate a fire station that’s set to open in the spring. Sideras says he wants to add more women and people of color to the force to better reflect the community.
