Indiana Workplace Injuries, Illnesses on the Decline

Indiana officials say nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses across the state fell to the lowest rate on record with 3.8 per 100 full-time workers last year.

The Indiana Department of Labor says the annual rate announced Monday improves on the 2012 rate of 4.0 illnesses or injuries per 100 workers and is half the rate of 7.6 per 100 workers in 2000. The figures come from the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses conducted by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Labor Department says the most significant improvement among major Indiana industries was in the state’s agriculture sector, where the rate of 3.6 injuries or illnesses per 100 full-time workers in 2013 was half the rate of 7.2 per 100 the previous year.
