A Michigan City, Indiana, woman whose 5-year-old son died at a daycare center is seeking $700,000 in damages from state officials in the boy’s death.
Anita Leflore’s tort claim notice served recently on Gov. Mike Pence, the state’s attorney general and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration notifies them that a lawsuit will follow unless the state agrees to pay $700,000.
The Indianapolis Star reports Leflore says state officials failed to notify her about problems at the daycare, failed to ensure they were fixed and failed to close it down.
Amareon Williams died June 9 from asphyxiation after getting caught in a jump rope left hanging over an outdoor play fort at the Michigan City day care.
State officials closed the center after Amareon’s death.
