Dozens of inmates at the Newton Correctional Facility in central Iowa have been relocated because of water damage in their dorm unit.
The state Department of Corrections says a major thunderstorm Thursday caused water damage at the facility’s Correctional Release Center. There was significant damage to a unit that houses 54 offenders.
The inmates were relocated to other rooms of the facility for temporary housing because of the hazardous conditions. Officials say there were no injuries.
Visits and volunteer activities have been suspended.
