Sioux Falls, S.D., homeowners are being urged to verify that the contractors they intend to hire for repairs associated with the recent hail storm are actually licensed.
Ron Bell is the city’s chief building officer. He says homeowners should verify that the contractor has current liability insurance and a compliance bond.
Bell adds that building permits and inspections are also required for some repair work such as the installation of new shingles.
A storm on Thursday pelted the metro area with pea- to golf ball-size hail damaging hundreds of vehicles and homes.
A list of licensed contractors is available online at www.siouxfalls.org/building .
