A Nebraska couple accused of burning down a restaurant they owned in South Dakota to collect insurance money has been convicted of felony arson and reckless burning after a weeklong trial.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says a jury in Bon Homme County returned the verdict on Friday against 62-year-old Charles Johnson and 56-year-old Kimberly Johnson, of Niobrara Neb. They each face up to 20 years in prison and $40,000 in fines when they’re sentenced Aug. 7.
The charges stemmed from an October 2010 fire that destroyed Libby’s Steak House in Springfield and another business and damaged a third.
