No Answers so Far for Illinois Landslide Homes

May 3, 2013

City leaders in East Peoria, Ill., don’t have many answers so far for people forced out of three homes by a landslide.

People affected by the slide gathered at a City Council meeting Tuesday to ask questions.

Josh Allen owns one of the homes. He asked the city if it has any way to build up the ravine below them so he can live there again.

The Journal Star in Peoria reports that Mayor Dave Mingus said he doesn’t know.

Homeowners have been told it could cost half a million dollars or more to stabilize the ground beneath the homes. That ground started giving way during heavy rain on April 18

City leaders said they’ll help residents find whatever state and federal resources they can but offered no local help.
