State Closes Nebraska City Men’s Free Bar Shuttle

Two Nebraska City men have been told they can’t continue to offer free rides to bar patrons until the men get permits and more insurance.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Travis Gillespie and Frank Trombino say they were inspired by billboards that urged people not to drink and drive.

They bought a used van and started Safe Ride Shuttle Service in February, stopping at bars on Friday and Saturday nights to offer free rides home.

They say they gave 131 free rides.

But the Nebraska Public Service Commission says the tips and donations the men accepted put them into the commercial arena that required $1.5 million in insurance coverage and various permits and fees.

The men say they’ll apply for the permits and try to remain in operation.
