Officials have identified a worker fatally injured in an accident at a General Motors plant in suburban Cleveland.
Authorities were contacted Tuesday afternoon about a worker trapped by machinery at the metal processing plant in Parma. The medical examiner in Cleveland identified the victim Wednesday as 52-year-old Phil Niewiadomski of Painesville.
GM spokesman Tom Mock said the accident occurred at the start of the second shift. The worker died at MetroHealth Medical Center.
The spokesman says company and union officials have a joint investigative team looking into what happened.
Part of the plant was shut down after the accident.
The facility produces steel parts and employs about 1,500 people.
