Until you can break up the unholy alliance of public unions, sweetheart deals, patronage, etc., you will not break the Dem hold on Chicago.

As primarily a Dem this wouldn’t ordinarily bother me, but frankly, there are no checks and balances here now. Maybe Daley retiring will help the situation. And the “machine” is strong…

However, you must also factor in the absolute downstate and collar county antipathy to Chicago (and vice versa). The more “RED” they are (and they are) the more Dem Chicago gets in an “us vs. them” battle.

This has gone on for the 35 years that I have been in this state…

Fellow blogger is correct, however: the perception right or wrong, is that, while the GOP wants to take govts hands out of their money pockets, they, in turn, want to impose their moral, ethical, and religious beliefs on everyone else. A large urban population will not accept this…and the many Chicago transplants from other urban areas will not, either. For me, is much easier to understand a rife crook than someone who feels compelled (and they do) to impose their values on mine…

Chicago IS a lovely city…if you stick to the right areas. That those kids are being shot in Chicago is an absolute public shame that no one appears to be effectively addressing…if you cannot provide safe passage for your kids (be it in Chicago or Effingham), then what good is the pretty city and the five star restaurants…and the landscaped medians full of pretty flowers?

Now, IL is in financial crisis…and the lawmakers better get serious fast, regardless of party affiliation…

I know Chicago has pockets of bad areas. I have clients in areas that I would never venture into after dark. If they dont want me there during the day, I dont want them as clients.
I would not want the Nat Guard in my town either. However, in these pockets of problems where it appeared to be open season on the police this past summer, seems to be no choice. Let the Nat Guard shoot first then ask questions. Its backwards and will draw some critics out, very unpopular. But the cops cant protect them selves much less the general public. If there is another suggestion, please bring it to the table.

Big question is when is enough of the same old enough? You finally had enough of Stroger, didnt you?

Fed Up, I think you are incapable of understanding. We don’t want change for the sake of change. For us Chicagoans, the same old works just fine.

Todd Stroger was a one-termer, so I don’t know what your talking about there. He was awful, and he didn’t make it out of the primary this year. That’s how things are supposed to work. If you are confusing him with his dad, his dad would have been re-elected if he hadn’t had a stroke.

And saying the National Guard should be allowed to enter Chicago’s bad neighborhoods and “shoot first then ask questions,” makes me think you are a crazy person. What kind of person thinks that is OK?

Let’s make a deal. You don’t move to Chicago, and we’ll enjoy our city and run our politics without you.

So, your happy with the mass exedous of the trade shows from McCormick Place sending jobs to Vegas & FLA instead of keeping them here? Wal Mart wants to come in & create jobs? City Council says no unless you pay higher then market wages? You accept open season on cop shooting? Innocent kids caught in the cross fires of gang members? Leave well enough alone? Fine for Chicago. I choose to not live there for them same reasons.

The state is going broke, a mess brought on by Blogo giving away everything he could. Lock him up, throw away the key, then continue on in the same manner? Maybe Quinn didnt have enough time to prove – disprove himself. Good thing the Recall referendum went through. Looking like 4 more years of the same crap out of Springfield. Maybe I should pack up and leave the state all togeather. GO PACK! Ugh, just dont sound right.

Chicago, like Los Angeles, Sanfransisco, Boston all deserve the financial ruin coming their way.

    NO PENSION BAILOUTS FOR YOU!

Just watch and see your wonderful politicians will be coming to washington with their hands out.
