Bill Brady screwed himself by running as a social conservative. Mark Kirk ran as a fiscal conservative/social moderate and won Barack’s old Senate seat. Illinois is a very blue state when it comes to social issues — this is especially true in Chicago and it’s collar counties. The collar counties went overwhelmingly for Kirk, but not Brady.

Cassandra, every former Illinois governor is or should be in jail. Bipartisan.

Cassandra, fact, the Democratic machine has run Chicago for generations. The Republican party has barely existed there until recently. Fact, Chicago has the highest taxes of any city in the world. This came out last year in a report. My liberal daughter lives there and is sick of the way it works.

There is plenty blame to go around, Dems Reps, doesnt matter. I voted for whom ever was not currently holding office except for Jessie White.I get the feeling (why I do not know) that he is the least crooked of all of Illinois politicians.

One thing I am sure we can all agree on is that this was indeed the sleeziest election I have lived through. constant bashing of the other guy. Who sttod up and said what they are going to do as opposed to what the other guy did?

Regarding Illinois jailed politicians, thats why they built the Brooks Fed Pen (Club Fed)complete with a full recreational room out side of Oxford Wisconsin, just for them. Graylord, Silver Scoop, ect…………. and still more.

    Glad the election is over.

I voted no on all bond issues / referendums that would give any politician any more money to blow on their friends.

I hear you loud and clear, Fed. Be interesting to see how they are going to dig us out of this huge hole…regardless of how much is cut, there has to be additional revenue as well.

This idiocy has been going on for the 35 years I have lived in IL. Nothing changes. The cronyism, nepotism, sweetheart deals are just unending.

And, Nobody, while the Dems may have controlled much of the legislature, the GOP has colluded and done their own harm as well….does the name Pate Phillips ring a bell? For decades this guy (DuPage GOP) paralyzed state government for his own ends…So the stench gets spread ALL over…surely there is a lot to go around. But I have to admit, Todd Stroger absolutely takes the cake…has the man no shame? UGH

Well, Well, Well said, MT. I could not agree with you more.

Hey, Nobody, although the infrastructure is crumbling, you gotta admit the landscaping is great! (!!!!!!!) at least in the loop and tourist areas! (just for the record, this is a sarcastic comment).

You live in that town. Any idea why they continue to vote Dem?
He sells off the Pk Meters. Running McCormick Place into BK. every night on the new someone is getting shot including cops. FOP does not want their leader, but the mayor does. Then he refuses help from the Nat Guard. Highest taxxes in the nation. Most Crooked County in the country. Same county O Bum a cut his teeth in and they vote for him to ruin (run) our country.
Why do they continue to vote for same old same old? You would be better suited to run the show.

I live in Chicago, too. I’ll try to explain.

First, Chicago used to have the highest “sales” tax of any city in the United States — currently, we’re second or third. I believe that Philadelphia owns that title now. Our state taxes are rather low.

Everybody talks about pay to play, etc. But the city runs smooth. Our city has some of the nicest urban parks in the country, we also have Navy Pier Millennium Park, Lollapalooza every summer and healthy neighborhoods within the city. We’re willing to stomach the less than scrupulous if the city is moving in an orderly fashion. Daley is a hero here, getting elected to six terms before his announced retirement.

The violence (which there is a lot of) is contained to the impoverished South and West sides. It’s not like there are shootings in Wrigleyville or the Loop sections of the city. And nobody in Chicago, including the South and West sides, want the National Guard roaming our streets.

Being the third largest city in the country, we also understand that we need the social safety nets that republicans always run on cutting from the budget.

Again, Mark Kirk won his Senate seat running as a social moderate (pro-choice, open to gun control, voted for cap and trade when a congressman) and Brady ran for governor as a social conservative that’s anti-choice in all circumstances, anti-gay marriage and for allowing hand guns in Chicago’s city limits. That stuff might play well downstate, but Chicago has the numbers advantage.
I love Chicago, wouldn’t live anywhere else.

I love Chicago too, but it is appallingly crooked and has been since it’s founding. Unlike Detroit where they are crooked, at least the double dealing politicians in Chicago managed to have a city that is great to visit. Detroit can be flushed any time and the rest of the state will not miss it. Chicago has the best police and politicians money can buy.
