I heard a person from Schaumberg recently describe the financial situation of IL as like a third world country. Both parties are responsible, but in Chicago there is no party other than the Democrats. He who won the Democratic primary was the mayor. Illinois is probably as broke as CA, maybe more so. The party of spend like it will never end has controlled the 80% of the population north of I-80 forever. Don’t blame Republicans for that. There may be some bad Republican players in IL, but they are children compared to the Democratic machine. Look around Chicago next time you are there. The infratstructure is crumbling and the money is gone. Highest taxes of any city in the world and where does it go?

You got it right-if more republicans could stop being so damned socially conservative, then I could get behind them. Why can’t there be a party that is fiscally conservative but realizes the separation of church and state? If they want the government’s hands off their money, why can’t they keep them off things like marriage, abortion and education?

Not sure what this says about the people in Crook County. “Lets vote for higher taxxes when we have the highest sales tax in the nation”.

Guess the economy is thriving in Chicago while the rest of the state is struggling to survive.

So True. I moved out of Crook County because I couldn’t stand being surrounded by morons any longer. It’s all hte welface cases that keep the crook democrats in office. They pay no taxes so what do they care?!

Come on, Fed UP. I have lived in IL for 35 years….the same debate was going on way back then. Too low income tax and unfair way of determining it has been debated for all this time….

This is not to say that I appreciate the control of too many of our tax dollars by public employee unions and other apparent state wastage (did you approve of the monies given to a CHURCH for roof repair….I think it was $250,000 or maybe 500,000) and pork barrel…but we are not going to dig ourselves out of this huge hole that BOTH parties have colluded on for years without some tax increases, and the income tax graded is the best place to start. You are fooling yourself if you think that is so.

The trick is to cut the waste and graft and sweetheart deals, the triple and double dipping, and the cronyism and nepotism.

Yeah, You Said It, it is all due to welfare cheats? Well, then stop the cheats and the fraud (much of which is by the businesses that do business with outr state) as well. That can never be a bad thing….but face the fact that 15 billion is a ton of bucks that will need to be recouped somehow…

Do not make the mistake of blaming Quinn for what has been going on for decades…and under both parties….

thankfully, I do not live in Cook or Chicago. Let’s hope Preckwinkle lives up to her promise….it would make the state a whole lot better for all of us.

I believe you mean “money”. By saying “monies” you are implying that foreign currency was also given alongside tax dollars to pay for the repairs, and that’s just silly.

OK, Little Idiot, now that our have prognosticated on my use of the plural, what do you think of the issue?

Or can’t you see the forest for the trees?

How to NOT run a state:
    1) Promise pensions to teachers you know is severely underfunded.
    2) Overpay public teachers and administrators ridiculous sums. Many (hundred’s) making over 100,000.
    http://www.familytaxpayers.org/salary.php
    3) Lower bond rating resulted in 500,000,000 in additional borrowing costs. (For only one YEAR) Further ratings decreases will continue to push the number higher.
    4) Quinn wants to increase the state income tax by 33%.
    5) Other than Michigan, no other state has lost more manufacturing jobs in the last ten years, thus reducing its tax base.

I could go on, but I think (most of) you get the point.
    And they re-elected this guy?

Vlad, all too true. Note that the “33% increase” is really only one or two percent since the IL income tax is very low.

I also noted many upscale cities and towns in IL ALSO playing the pension game, so this is an IL thing, not just a Dem thing or a state thing….even in that Brave New Worlkd of DuPage County…Republican bastion that it is…..

There is ENOUGH blame to go around as our former Republican governor is sitting in jail now and may be shortly joined by Dem Blagojevich. Daley may have spared himself by declining to run for re election….
