Fire officials say a woman and her 2-year-old son were killed and three others including a firefighter injured by an arson at an Indianapolis, Ind., apartment complex.
Fire Capt. Rita Burris said the woman took refuge with her son in a water-filled bathtub in her third-floor apartment as the flames spread on the night of Sept. 15.
The Indianapolis Star reports that 20-year-old Jessica Cole and Amerian Williams-Cole were found unconscious in the bathtub of their unit at Nottingham Village Apartments on the city’s east side.
Burris says they were taken down a 24-foot ladder but died while en route to a hospital.
Three other people that included a pregnant woman jumped from third-floor balconies, two of whom suffered minor injuries. One firefighter also suffered minor injuries.
