College fraternities and sororities will need to install automatic fire sprinkler systems under a new Illinois law.
The bill signed by Gov. Quinn requires new fraternity and sorority buildings built after Jan. 1, 2011 to have the systems.
Older fraternities and sororities have until 2019 to install them.
The law says dormitories are already required to have automatic fire sprinkler systems by 2013.
The state says fraternities and sororities that don’t comply with the law can’t move people into their housing.
