The attorney for a woman whose husband allegedly faked his own death and assumed another man’s identity said the Lake Barrington, Illinois woman knew nothing of the plot.
Police called Denise Squire a person of interest in the case. She hasn’t been charged.
Her husband, Ari Squire, committed suicide at a Missouri hotel last week after authorities said he killed 20-year-old Justin Newman and assumed his identity in late February for a $5 million insurance policy.
Attorney Elliot Pinsel said Denise Squire passed a lie detector test and is being unfairly scrutinized.
Authorities claimed Squire and her husband exchanged e-mails after he was supposedly dead, but before he killed himself.
