My kids rott was loved from birth and treated like their child. Babied and pampered for 2 years. Right until they had a child and the dog became jealous. They got the dog out of the house as soon as he started growling and threatening the baby. Those animals could kill a child in a second. We have bread dogs and cats for specific purposes for thousands of years. Also, in the end, they are animals who operate on instict. Too many people think of them as part of the family rather than an animal. Their little kittie and doggie brains react in the ways they have been programed. All the good intentions in the world won’t make up for the small boy I saw locally with hundred of stitches in his face from a dog attack. Stop treating animals like people. Love them, but don’t assume they are like people.

Perhaps the owners of the pets, like the owners of the cars, knives, etc. are to blame?

TPG: thanks for making the point that Ad and the Nebraskan obviously missed. “some seed fell on rock”.

Ad: You can have the most responsible owner in the world and it won’t make any difference. What don’t you get here? The genetic propensity of the breed is totally un-predictable. Unlike other breeds that may snap and bite, these two breeds maul, rip flesh, and kill. If people want ’em, great. That’s their right……….so long as it doesn’t infringe on my right to live without fear of being mauled. If the owners want to take that risk, that’s their business. But knowing the propensities, they have no right and all the responsibility in the world for the safety of others. When they decide to snap, the owner should be the only one around. If even one adult or child is spared being mauled, traumatized, and physically and emotionally scarred for life, it’s worth doing without Pits and Rotty’s.

You know, Aunti Everything, I usually agree with everything you say, and had you read my earlier posts, you would see that I am for much stronger legislation against attacking dogs. But where I differ from you and Wally Russ is that I don’t care what breed it is, because any dog is capable of attacking a human. So do not discount me just because you can’t see my ENTIRE point.

My apologies if I misinterpreted your posts. I am getting a little crazy with so many intensly ignorant postings on this site lately. I keep the same mantra going on many of these, facts not feelings. I was reacting rather than thinking, sorry.

Haven’t read all the posts yet but to correct 50 Cal in the 10 ring…

There are only two kinds of Dogs…those that have bitten someone, and those that are going to!

All dogs have the potential to be dangerous (quite like humans) but bans like this are preposterous. It reminds me of the Salm Witch Trials – pure hysteria, hype and a lot of nonsense.

So using your logic, when i walk by young white boys in leather trench coats or young black men in baggy pants and i get scared can i ask for a ban against them? nanny government out of our lives, it’s ridiculous. All dogs can bite people. My grandpa was bitten by our family dog, a dalmation. Should we ban this dog too? My sister was killed by a car, should we ban cars too? If a person was bitten by a mosquito and died (it happens) should we ban them as well. where does it stop?

No problem Aunti Everything…i think there are three opinions going here…
    1. All dogs are great
    2. The dogs listed should be banned
    3. All dogs have the potential to be dangerous and the owner should be held more accountable.

and ironically it’s groups 2 and 3 who are battleing the most and really, i think they are on the same page, just a little difference in the fine print.

The issue was banning the most vicious DOGS. Not people, not cars, not mosquitoes. You may recall the owners (lawyers) of two Pit Bulls in San Franciso are doing jail time for their dogs attacking, and killing, a neighbor outside her building. The last claim I handled for a Pit Bull attack involved a 4 year old girl. She and her mother were walking down the street minding their own business. The Pit Bull owner was on the other side of the street and the dog was leashed. For some unknown reason, the dog took off after the pair. The owner couldn’t hold onto it or control it. It grabbed the girl and wouldn’t let go. She sustained severe lacerations to her head, neck, and upper torso. It took over 500 sutures to close the wounds. Multiple surgeries resulted. she was lucky to be alive. The mother was also mauled trying to get the dog off her daughter. It took four adult men to beat the damn thing off the child. This girl deserved the chance to grow up without having the psychological scars of the attack, and the daily reminder of her injuries staring back at her in the mirror. In spite of the best plastic surgeries, her face will always resembe a “roadmap”. How would you feel if you were the girl’s parent? Sorry honey, some jackass thought owning a Pit Bull was more important than the risk of it tear your face off.

Your defense of these breeds is absurd.

Get your facts straight on the San Francisco killings, those weren’t pit bulls. They were presa canarios, dogs not on the list.
