I like & trust certain breeds of dogs, but I wouldn’t turn my back on certain other breeds (just by their reputations).
Being retired from handling homeowner liability claims, e.g. “dog bites”, for a major insurance company for 35 years, I’ve seen more than my share of serious dog bite injuries. One was a 5 yr old boy who lost half of his lower jaw to a pit bull owned by the neighbor. Another case involved the death of a toddler from a pit bull attack in their own back yard, by the father’s pit bull. I’ve also known of this breed being non-agressive with humans for long periods of time, until their brains just “snapped” without warning, resulting in serious injuries to whomever was in their path, including their owners. Yes, even the terriers will bite when aggravated, as they have been bred to kill rats. Jack Russell Terriers are not good pets for children! Be forewarned now. Personnaly, I believe the Yellow Labs are the best pets for families, and I would own one if convenient.
You people who think that the dog breeds mentioned above are not dangerous at some point in time, you are kidding yourselves!
Get rid of those oversized animals that have been bred to take down large game, and get a good-natured dog for a pet. If not, then you have no excuse to cry when the police hauls you to court to answer for your misdeeds.
P.S. Your insurance company may pay only one (1) time for your dog’s bite if not excluded by endorsement. Then you are on your own for that same dog’s actions in the future. Check your local law statutes to see where you stand on dog ownership.

Kill the owners!. I have had Rotties for over 20 years. Not 1 attack. That’s becasue they are loved, cared for,and trained. And these idiots should do their homework. There are more small dog attacks than large -just the larger ones can do more damage. But those “rat” dogs are snappy. The law should hold the same penalty for man and beast.

I’m with you. I have a 4th doberman and a Hurricane Katrina rescue Rottweiller. Everyone of my dobermans and the rottweiller are beautiful, gentle animals.

The grandstanding politicians ought to shut up and find a more reasonable solution. Shame on them!

    It’s the owners fault.
To ban a specific breed of dog is as dumb as saying all red haired people have short tempers.

Is there any kind of actual study on the most likely breeds to attack or why they attack?

The government are not the only ones to blame on this. There is a lot of “Yellow” journalism in the media, about these breeds also. If a golden or a lab bite someone it’s never reported (mostly because nobody want’s to hear anything bad about these breeds, go figure.

Too bad we can not ban stupid lawmakers from making stupid laws. What tripe.

What we need are laws that ban politicians that WE deem dangerous! Wait…that might be ALL of them!

I have been attacked twice by pit bulls while walking my beagles. The last time the dog was on a leash and got loose from the owner. I am all against physically abusing animals, but I had to literally kick the crap out of the pit bull to get it to let go of my pup. When the owner said “dude, what’s your problem” I almost had to kick his @#&. As far as pit bulls are concerned (and their stupid owners) kill them all in my opinion
