Authorities in Dubai say three workers were killed when a crane collapsed at a construction site near the world’s tallest building.
A police statement on Monday says the crane fell on the workers on Sunday near the landmark Burj Khalifa. Investigators are now studying whether it was properly installed.
At least five laborers were injured in the incident.
The Dubai-based newspaper Emirates 24/7 quoted police Col. Ali Ghanim as saying some construction company officials were taken into custody as part of the probe.
Millions of construction laborers, mostly from South Asia, work around the Gulf Arab states.
In recent years, Gulf officials have taken steps to improve conditions for the workers after pressure from rights groups.
