Former Tour de France sprint ace and Spanish Vuelta champion Laurent Jalabert has been taken to a French hospital after being hit by a car while riding his bike.
Police in the southern town of Montauban said the 44-year-old Jalabert was hit by a car traveling in the opposite direction and which refused to give priority, and then hit Jalabert in the side. The accident took place on a road near Montauban.
Police said Jalabert was taken to a hospital with several fractures, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
Jalabert was a successful sprinter during his Tour career, twice winning the green jersey for best sprinter and was world time trial champion in 1997.
