A Chinese authority says the local unit of ConocoPhillips has found nine oil spill sources amid intensifying pressure on the company to clean up oil spills in the Bohai Bay.
The North China Sea branch of the State Oceanic Administration says ConocoPhillips “admitted” Saturday that there were nine oil spill sources found on the northwest side of Platform C of the Penglai 19-3 oil field.
The oceanic agency says it has asked the company to conduct a thorough investigation.
ConocoPhillips China on Friday apologized for oil spills in the Bohai Bay and said the cleanup from the leaks is almost complete, with minimal impact to the environment. The June oil spills covered 324 square miles (840 square kilometers).
