Langley Leaving Hiscox to Become Lloyd’s Director

Sue Langley, previously Chief Operating Officer at Hiscox, is leaving the Bermuda-based/UK insurer to take up a new position as Lloyd’s Director, Market Operations and North America. She is expected to formally join Lloyd’s this summer

Lloyd’s indicated that Langley would play a key role in its goal aimed at “enhancing the market’s operational competitiveness and ensuring a focus on North American business.” She will be responsible for building “on progress to date to ensure that operational efficiency remains at the top of the agenda.”

Langley will also assume responsibility for managing Lloyd’s offices in the United States and Canada.

Lloyd’s CEO Richard Ward commented: “I am delighted that Sue has joined us. She is well respected throughout the market and has a strong track record. One of my key priorities is to ensure that Lloyd’s is as competitive as possible and remains a highly attractive place to do business.” He indicated Langley would “play a vital role” in growing Lloyd’s North American presence, and would be assuming responsibility for business that “represents some 40 percent of our income and therefore requires a proper focus.”

Langley called the prospects an “exciting time at Lloyd’s as it moves towards a truly modern marketplace.” She indicated she was very much looking ” forward to working with the team and the London market.”

Langley joined Hiscox in 1998 as Chief Information Officer, and was appointed Group Operations Director in 2001. In 2004, she became Chief Operating Officer and was appointed to the Executive Group, responsible for all areas of operations, change management, reinsurance and claims processing, electronic underwriting, outsourcing and technology. During her time at Hiscox, Langley launched a new electronic distribution system in the US and Europe.
