New Jersey’s PATH Stations Reopening After Sandy Repairs

PATH’s Exchange Place and World Trade Center stations will soon reopen on weekends after nearly a year of Superstorm Sandy repairs and signal upgrades.

Service will resume starting the weekend of Dec. 20.

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey says approximately 280,000 square feet of metal tunnel surfaces and equipment were cleaned of salt residue left by Sandy and corroded metal was replaced.

The agency says it made significant progress installing new computerized signals. The Positive Train Control system helps reduce human or mechanical errors and provides added safety.

Additional weekend outages are planned in the second half of 2015 on the Journal Square-33rd Street via Hoboken line, along with completion of remaining work on the Newark-to-World Trade Center line.
