Officials at a western Connecticut ski area say a 14-year-old high school student who was injured after falling about 20 feet off a ski lift didn’t use the lift’s safety bar.
The teenager fell off a lift at the Mohawk Mountain ski area in Cornwall Wednesday afternoon while on his way up to a race course, where he was competing with his high school team.
The boy was taken to Sharon Hospital and later flown by helicopter to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford. His name and condition haven’t been released, but he’s expected to recover. Authorities say he was wearing a helmet and was conscious after the fall.
A Mohawk Mountain spokeswoman says the ski lift had a safety bar, but it wasn’t pulled down when the teen fell.
