Authorities are investigating the death of a worker who was pinned by a truss at a Salem, Va., steel operation.
Salem Fire and EMS deputy chief John Prillaman tells The Roanoke Times that the steel truss fell on the worker and pinned his legs as it was being unloaded from a tractor-trailer. The truss weighs an estimated 4 tons.
The accident occurred Monday morning at New Millennium Building Systems. The worker died at a local hospital. Authorities haven’t released his name.
New Millenium general manager Kevin Bort says the company is working with the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.
