More than three dozen school vans have been badly damaged or destroyed in a fire that heavily damaged a school bus garage, causing two Pittsburgh-area school districts to cancel classes.
The fire was reported Tuesday about 5 a.m. at a building housing a garage used by Student Transportation of America in Coraopolis, about 10 miles west of Pittsburgh. The Moon Area and Cornell school districts nearby canceled Tuesday classes because of resulting transportation problems.
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the fire’s cause.
The garage is owned by Ace Tire and Parts, and also houses a pallet recycling business. The garage portion of the two-block structure was most heavily damaged.
