A five-alarm fire destroyed a condominium under construction at the Jersey shore.
Heat from the flames at 601 Beachway in Keansburg was so intense it caused heavy damage to condominiums across the street and also damaged an apartment building Monday.
An unknown number of people were evacuated.
Deputy Chief Michael Pigott tells WNBC-TV in New York the fire started in the back of the building and the wind carried embers to homes across the street.
TV footage showed the heat melted siding and even the rear panel of a car.
There are no injuries reported.
The cause is under investigation.
Officials were not immediately available for comment.
