A fire at a Norfolk, Virginia marina has destroyed three boats and damaged at least three others.
The Coast Guard says the fire broke out on a 45-foot sailing vessel at the Vinings Landing Marina early Wednesday morning. The blaze then spread to recreational boats adjacent to the sailing vessel.
Three boats sank and at least three others were damaged.
Fire crews from Norfolk and Virginia Beach extinguished the blaze.
Responders are using absorbent pads and a boom to control fuel from the boats.
Coast Guard pollution investigator Ensign David Herndon says boaters in the marina’s vicinity should exercise caution but there’s no immediate pollution threat to the public.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
