A construction worker has been flown to a hospital for treatment after part of a ceiling collapsed at a church in Rockland.
Fire officials say a 20-by-30 foot section of ceiling collapsed in the lower level of Holy Family Church on Thursday morning.
The Patriot Ledger reports that workers had been doing demolition work for several days on the plaster ceiling in the church’s lower sanctuary.
A medical helicopter took the unidentified worker to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. There is no immediate word on the worker’s condition.
Officials said a second person sustained minor injuries but was not hospitalized.
Town officials and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston are investigating the cause of the accident.
