The family of a Massachusetts woman who died shortly after doctors started a cosmetic surgery procedure on her has sued the national company that was overseeing the operation.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Middlesex Superior Court by the family of Donna Ames alleges that minutes after she received anesthetic injections at Lifestyle Lift’s Boston-area office last July, she had a seizure and her blood pressure and oxygen levels fell.
The Lowell woman was not hooked up to any continuous-monitoring equipment, and no anesthesiologist was present. She was later declared brain dead at a hospital.
Troy, Mich.-based Lifestyle Lift said in a statement to The Boston Globe that Ames did not disclose a history of seizures or allergies to anesthesia and that staff called 911 when she became ill.
