Rhode Island’s congressional delegation is announcing more than $5 million in federal funding for the East Providence Fire Department.
The nearly $5.3 million in stimulus aid will help pay for renovations to two of of the department’s old fire stations.
Rhode Island Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Rep. Patrick Kennedy all wrote letters supporting the department’s aid application.
The East Providence fire department is one of 14 around the country being awarded federal stimulus fire station construction grants.
