Authorities say a 44-year-old western New York woman has died after being struck by a state Department of Transportation snowplow.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Department says Joyce Garvey was struck and killed Monday night while walking outside her apartment building in the Town of Lockport, 20 miles northeast of Buffalo.
Investigators say Garvey was crossing a road when she was struck by the plow. Authorities say the driver was clearing the road’s shoulder and apparently didn’t see her.
Garvey’s son, Ryan Garvey, told Buffalo’s WIVB-TV that his mother was watching his children at his nearby apartment when she headed back home to retrieve something and was struck by the plow.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
