A judge has set bail at $200,000 for a Berlin, New Hampshire man indicted on nine counts of arson, accused of setting multiple fires in 19 months.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kerry Tibbetts has been held at the Coos County House of Corrections since he was arrested in January.
The Berlin Daily Sun reports Coos County Attorney Robert Mekeel says Tibbetts poses a significant danger to the community and there’s no evidence he’ll stop lighting fires.
Public Defender Martha Hornick said there is no way for Tibbetts to come up with such a huge amount of money. She said Tibbetts could live with his family and check in with police if released on bail.
During Monday’s arraignment, Hornick raised Tibbetts< competency issues, saying she believes that Tibbetts doesn't truly understand the charges. ___ Information from: The Berlin Daily Sun
