Continental Airlines Flight Crashes in Upstate New York

A Continental Airlines flight out of Newark, New Jersey crashed late last night into a house in Buffalo, New York — bursting into flames and killing 44 passengers, four crew members and one person on the ground, according to reports.

Flight 3407, operated by Colgan Air Inc., crashed outside of Buffalo Niagara International Airport around 10:20 p.m. after departing from Newark Liberty International Airport.

In a statement, New York Gov. David Paterson said “As we continue to monitor the situation in the Town of Clarence, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were on board, and with the people of the Buffalo metropolitan area.”

The plan that crashed has been identified as a Q400 Bombardier aircraft.
At the time of the crash, the area had been experiencing fog, wind and snow.
