Connecticut Family Reaches $2.3M Settlement in Drunken Driving Case

December 3, 2008

The estate of a Greenwich, Connecticut teenager killed in a drunken driving accident in 2005 has been awarded $2.3 million in a settlement reached in Superior Court in Bridgeport.

Court records show the lawsuit was brought by Justin Brown’s parents against the driver in the fatal accident, Evan Kimia of Greenwich, who was convicted of second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and is serving a four-year prison sentence.

Brown was a passenger in Kimia’s car when it struck a tree and stone wall. Authorities say he died of head injuries, and Kimia’s blood-alcohol content at the time of the accident exceeded the legal limit of .08.

Kimia’s lawyer did not respond for a request for comment. Kimia apologized for his actions at his sentencing hearing.
