Officials in Milford, Connecticut say a 29-year-old man has been hospitalized for traumatic injuries after he was pinned under a 1,000-pound freight elevator.
Firefighters were called to the Optical Polymers International building on West Main Street last week to help a man who was trapped under a small dumbwaiter-type cargo elevator.
Officials are not sure why the man climbed into the elevator shaft.
The incident also sent four other people to the hospital.
Fire officials say two people who pulled the man from under the elevator were injured while struggling to free the man, including one man who experienced chest pains.
Two women who watched as their co-worker was pulled out from under the elevator were also taken to a hospital for treatment. One of them fainted and the other experienced chest pains.
