The leading candidate in the race for the Democratic Party’s nomination for state insurance commissioner is defending himself from attacks from his rivals about his campaign contributions.
During a debate Wednesday on WDEL radio, candidates Tom Savage and Karen Weldin Stewart alleged Gene Reed has taken contributions from people with business before the insurance commissioner.
Reed denied the allegation and countered that his campaign contributors gave him money because of his experience, his integrity and his track record.
Reed is the party’s endorsed candidate but is facing Savage and Weldin Stewart in the Sept. 9 primary.
