Vermont Bar’s License Suspended after Fatal Crash

August 12, 2008

The Vermont Liquor Control Board has suspended the liquor license of a Colchester bar where a man had been drinking before he caused a fatal crash.

The Spanked Puppy’s 25-day suspension goes into effect on Sept. 22.

The board claims that Shawn Burritt, 33, of Jericho, appeared intoxicated on the night of Nov. 16, 2007 but was permitted to stay and drink.

Restaurant owners disagree.

Burritt — who lost his driver’s license for life after three drunken driving convictions — drove the wrong way on Interstate 89 and plowed his car into one carrying Nicholas Fournier, 18, of West Swanton, who died in the crash.

Burritt was sentenced in April to 10 to 20 years in prison.
