The mother of a 14-year-old girl who died in a swimming accident in Warwick, Rhode Island, has notified the city that she plans to file either a lawsuit or an insurance claim.
Tiffany Martinez of East Providence was swept off a sandbar late last month at Conimicut Point, which is part of a Warwick city park. She died after four days at Rhode Island Hospital.
A lawyer for the girl’s mother says the city didn’t have enough warning signs at the area, and that Martinez didn’t know the sandbar was dangerous.
The lawyer, Guy Settipane, says he’s notified Warwick officials that he’ll be filing a claim against the city. He says it’s not decided yet how much in damages the family will be seeking.
