Authorities say a Millsboro, Delaware man died after thousands of pounds of soybeans fell on him as he worked on a grain silo.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the silo at Allens Hatchery in Delmar
State police say 46-year-old Herbert Mitchell was fixing damaged equipment at the bottom of the silo and was pushing the soybeans to one side with a high-powered air hose.
They say he was being lowered in a cage by a forklift when something triggered the avalanche of the soybeans.
Emergency workers could not remove Mitchell from under the pile until 5 p.m., when he was pronounced dead.
The accident is under investigation.
