How did Edgar get from Mexico to RI?
There must be a way to fine him and the employer enough to use up the $30,000. He does not deserve it. Next we will be paying bank robbers who get hurt pulling off an inside job.
They actually went out of their way to get him back here on a special visa, the department that was created after 9/11 to protect us, so some idiot judge could pontificate on an “unsafe workplace”. Where did it say that? It said that Good ‘Ol Eddie slashed himself with the chainsaw ACCIDENATLLY.”. I wonder if he was drunk? Now, he has faded back into the “shadows” as the left likes to say, to colect more of our benefits and money. Go after his lawyer who more than likely arranged for him to be here.
Now please, please, please — do not vote a democrate into the white house or we’ll be looking at more of this crap. Deport them all now before it’s too late. We want to issue them driver’s licenses, IRS lets them pay taxes and doesn’t report them, why do we want to pay for everyone but our own people – Katrina victums–etc.

But, I think the REAL problem isn’t people wanting to come here for a better life….stopping them is putting a bandaid on something that needs 20 stitches. the problem is these companies that hire illegal immigrants so that they can get cheap labor and not have to pay Work Comp Premiums on the employee.
I agree that the injured person should have to pay back any state agency that issued him free health care, but to be honest, i’m glad that the employer is being punished. as he should be.

The gentlemans’ immigration status had nothing to do with the injury he suffered. He sought benefits due an employee. Period. Nothing more…nothing less. If the employer had WC insurance he would have been insulated from the lawsuit. He chose not to carry WC insurance in a high-risk business. This decision left him at risk. The fact he hired an illegal immigrant means nothing in this case. The only reason it is of interest is the fact he was granted a visa. I am appalled by the commentary here.

You don’t illegally enter this country and automatically qualify for the benefits that are available to its citizens. “illegal” is the operative word. Society was formed on the theory that people will abide by the laws and in return receive the benefits and rights of that society. This illegal has no such standing. The fact that you think he’s “entitled” to compensation is frightening. He ran the risk. Should the employer skate? No. But you don’t embellish illegals with the rights and benefits Americans fought and work for. Do you think this guy would have had any benefits back in Mexico? Get real.
