Richard Palczynski, senior vice president and chief actuary for The Hartford Financial Services Group’s property-casualty division, has been honored with the Legends Award by the American Society of Workers’ Compensation Professionals (AMCOMP).
The award, which was presented recently at the organization’s annual conference in Coconut Grove, Fla., honored Palczynski for lifetime achievement and commitment to promoting the nation’s workers’ compensation system.
Palczynski, who joined The Hartford in 1999, has been a strong and active proponent of disciplined underwriting and pricing in worker’s compensation. At The Hartford he has promoted such initiatives as faster reporting of job-related injuries and stronger controls on the unnecessary and sometimes harmful overuse of expensive prescription drugs in treating workers’ compensation injuries.
Prior to joining the Hartford, Palczynski spent 28 years at Travelers Insurance Co., retiring as executive vice president in the claims department and strategic head of the company’s workers’ compensation line of business.
